Sustainability & Social Responsibility
I value resource conservation, reducing waste, and fair labor practice.
Previously, I worked as a cog in the fashion industrial machine. I left when I could no longer accept the difference between its values and mine. With Thread Circus, I found a way I could use my passion and my training in a way that fit my values.
My mission starts with questioning why even make garments at all. The only garments I want to make are ones that last. Robes are the original slow fashion. They are the only garments that are often worn daily for years. Consider most people have at least a few pairs of underwear in rotation, but only one robe! This makes their cost per wear -both in environmental and economic terms- extremely low. They are often worn out before being thrown out, which is why there are so few vintage cotton robes still around, while vintage cocktail dresses abound. The goal of Thread Circus is to make you a robe you will eventually love to death. When you have, you can return it to Thread Circus for recycling. Use the contact us link to request a recycling shipping label and a discount on a replacement.
Thread Circus has a low waste production process. Because these robes are 100% cotton, they will not create polluting microfibers or outlast civilization. At the end of their lifespan, they can be recycled or composted rather than landfilled. All production scraps are recycled too!
I want fewer chemicals in the environment and on you. Thread Circus robes use unbleached cotton for the fill and lining fabrics. Patterned fabrics are digitally printed to create less chemical waste and less water compared to conventional print processes.
Thread Circus robes are sewn in the USA under non-exploitive working conditions.
Lastly, all packaging materials used to bring your robe to you are both recycled and recyclable.
